Here's the report from Madrid: I met up with Kat at the airport - she and her great aunt and uncle were waiting for me! A relaxed night in their condo in a suburb of Madrid, a late morning after sleeping in, and Kat and I were off to explore the city.
We started in the Plaza Mayor where we ate brunch of tortilla espanola and croquettes, walked to and through the Palace Real (Royal Palace), and then over to the Prado. We were still a bit tired, me from a busy few days in Paris and Kat from jet lag that we headed back to Aravaca (the suburbs) where Kat's aunt had made paella for dinner.
I really enjoyed having company again and laughing throughout the day, even if she was on her Blackberry every 10 minutes! Oh, and Kat and I had to keep calling out steps that were less than obvious to avoid twisting ankles or doing face-plants along the streets of Madrid.
I will summarize the day by saying I love Spanish food and Spain is so much more relaxed that I too am relaxed!
steph, your trip sounds unbelievable... wishing i could join you!

ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are finding down time on the trip. I am exhausted reading this in one go. I am also glad that having someone else there was as planned a relief for you too. I hope you are processing all of this so it does not run together too much (impossible not to do some running together)
